Season roast with salt and pepper.
Sear roast in crock pot with torch or in skillet. In the crock pot with a torch is preferred so you don't lose any juices. The point is to create flavor with the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maillard_reaction">Maillard reaction</a>, not to cook it.
Place roast in crock pot (if it's not there already)
Add the rest of the ingredients (optionally mix in other bowl first)
Cook on low until shreddable, about 8-10 hours
